Welcome to EAST!

Educational Alliance for a Sustainable Toronto

The Educational Alliance for a Sustainable Toronto is the name for the United Nations University’s Toronto Regional Centre for Expertise, formally struck in 2006.

Helping to advance the objectives of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, the specific goals of EAST are to:

  1. enhance public awareness and understanding of the principles and practices of sustainability;

  2. improve the quality of public education initiatives and formal curriculum development;

  3. identify strategies to encourage Torontonians to adopt more sustainable behaviour and consumption patterns; and

  4. support the advancement of specialized professional learning programs in the area of sustainable development.

EAST also works closely with members of EASO: The Educational Alliance for a Sustainable Ontario, and with representatives from the Outreach and Biodiversity Priorities unit of Environment Canada.

We invite you to visit our website to explore opportunities for collaboration and participation. The challenges that await the City of Toronto are formidable in this area and it is our hope that this collaboration amongst key educational stakeholders will help to advance awareness and behaviour change to move us all towards a more sustainable city and Toronto region.
